you can call it a (black) swan song

I knew it by the lake
As I knew it on the Mountain side
As the trees whispered into our hair
How precious true love is.
No magic in New Orleans?
We brought our magic there.
Walked on secret passages,
And stood in ancient lairs.
Perhaps one day I will return
Maybe I can find some of the magic we left there.
I’m remembering my dreams again
Misty remembrances of your knowing smile
Visions of my shadow self
A shadow I could not stop from cutting golden threads
Awake from my rest
I reach for my heart
It would seem my dream was real
I can not find my core
Only crimson crumbs of soul no more
That could explain the emptiness
Memories of onyx sheers severing transmuted strands
That could explain the fear
A dreaded prophecy fulfilled by me
I lied to you
Because I hated the truth
I lied to you
And killed my final worth
I know you can never trust my hand again
Can never trust my word
So if nothing else I will prove through deed
My shoulder scars will bleed once more
Janus has been rejected
His deception out weighed his wisdom
The trickster god back in chains
May the venom finish its task
A magus closed his eyes to his past
Opened them to rebirth as a twisted mortal
Now initiate once again
Walking a new path so familiar
The price is high for the alchemist art
Hearts clove in twain beats perhaps its last
Though philosophers stone is delicate
The masters may craft lead to gold
What will hells magic render us?
If we might keep the pulse,
Perhaps they have the potion
To mend a broken thing
Maybe they could grow together
Palpitating on a platter
But the truth of it is our hearts do lie halved
And some things can never be fixed
I know it was wrong of me to try
It’s just that I remember a magic we once possessed
A book of shadows where you wrote our spells
Hope, you said would keep us in the water
Swimming fin to fin
I can not guide you,
I was wrong when I said I could protect you
I do not know the way,
I have no more fae by my side
So here I am in pain and sore from the wounds I gave to you
No ability to guide
Not worthy to join you on your quest
Just a man again
A human flawed along with all the rest
If you will have it I would offer you the last spell of a magus no more
Do not loose your hope
Do not abandon your trail
Your magic is so strong I know you will find your way
Have the faith I have in you
Do not let the world win
Never forget that our love was true
I see the star ahead of you, its twinkle so very bright
Now I know why they took my wings
I knew it by the lake
As I knew it on the Mountain side
As the trees whispered into our hair
